Mike

Michael Bowyer

Position: Professional Climber/ guide

Michael is a professional climber and guide who has been climbing for 10 years. In that time he has climbed over 300 mountains on 4 different continents ranging in height from 3000m-8000m. He has a bachelors degree in Expeditionary Studies from Plattsburgh State, training in 2 alpine courses from the International School of Mountaineering, WFR, WFA, AIARE Level 1, S&R certifications and is currently working his way through the ranks of the AMGA to his IFMGA license.

When he started his climbing career he was taking a WFA course, there he crossed paths with a high altitude mountaineer who had been to Nepal several times. The interaction left a strong impression on him. After that meeting he decided to devote his life path to the high mountains of the world, aspiring to take his climbing into the Himalayan range. After 5 years of intense training and preparation he joined a private Romanian expedition on his first self supported trip with no guide or sherpa to Mt. Manaslu (8163m). After that first expedition it was clear that Nepal would become his second home. After 2 expeditions to 4 Himalayan peaks his intentions were becoming clear to him. He decided to create Summit Yourself Guiding and Consulting LLC and partner with Satori Adventures Pvt. We pride ourselves on contributing to the economy of the great country of Nepal, keeping guides and companies running after the devastating earthquakes. With this alliance SY provides consultation and training to climbers, ensuring that trained and fit climbers go to pursue their himalayan dreams only when they are ready, not when they have enough money. This is how we guarantee one of the safest services in the adventure industry. We take this safe and responsible approach to high altitude climbing for the safety of our clients and staff. We also feel that this approach leads not only to more safe ascents for everyone involved but more enjoyable ascents for everyone involved.
