Chitwan

Chitwan is located in the southwestern part of Nepal. It covers an area of 2,238.39 km2 (864.25 sq mi), and in 2011 had a population of 579,984 (279,087 male and 300,897 female) people. In the Chitwan district Chitwan National Park is famous for jungle activities. It is a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site which was designated as a national Park in 1973. Chitwan National Park is the Homeland of the Tharu who are the original tribe of this region. They have their own language, culture and traditional beliefs. The climate of chitwan is climatic seasons each offering unique experience. During the summer season (March –June) temperatures are high some time it can reach 43⁰ and in the winter seasons the temperatures can reach 0⁰.

The Chitwan valley consists of tropical and subtropical forests. Sal forests cover 70 percent of the park. Sal leaves are used locally for plates in festivals and religious offerings. Due to its closeness to Himalayan circuit the park also shelters winter and summer migrants along with its more than 500 native bird species. Bird watching in the Chitwan National Park is being popular day by day. There are more than 50 different types of grasses, including the elephant grass (Saccharum spp). Grasslands cover 20 percent of the Park. The Chitwan National Park is home to at least 43 species of mammals. The "King of the Jungle" is the Bengal Tiger. One horn rhino is only found in Chitwan National park. Tharu cultural Program, Elephant riding, Jungle safari, bird watching, canoeing and visiting Elephant breeding center is the most attraction of Chitwan Nation parks.
