73rd International Everest Day Celebration on May 29: Satori Adventures Participated with Pride and Joy After a Successful Season

Every year on May 29th, the mountaineering community across the globe pause to commemorate a historic moment that changed mountaineering history forever. This year in 2026 as well, we celebrated 73rd International Everest Day – an initiative of the government of Nepal to honor the historic Everest summit and its legacy –  with enthusiasm, respect, and pride. This year’s slogan was ‘Sagarmatha: Identity and Pride of Nepal’.

In the spring of 1953, two mountaineers, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary, stood on the summit of Mount Everest, a place no human had ever reached before. Their successful ascent proved that what once seemed impossible could, in fact, be achieved.

Today, even after seventy-three years, that legacy continues to live on and inspire thousands of climbers, guides, Sherpas, and dreamers who step into the Himalayas.

This year, a record 495 international climbers obtained permits for Mount Everest, along with more than 700 climbing staff registered to support their ascent. By 28 May, 1008 climbers reached the summit of the world’s highest peak (with final figures still to be updated from the department of Tourism), marking new records and achievements, while also facing some tragedies, as is often the case in high-altitude mountaineering. On 20th May record 275 climbers reached the summit of Mt. Everest.

Satori Adventures participated in the historic 73rd International Everest Day’ celebration with pride, joy, and gratitude for a successful and safe expedition season. On this occasion, our team member and photojournalist Purnima Shrestha was felicitated by the Government of Nepal for her world record expedition.

A season Written in Footsteps

Preparation of Satori Adventures’ Spring 2026 expedition, that ended in May last week, began in late January, which may surprise many of you. The preparation of logistics, essential high-altitude gears, meals, expedition tents, and other requirements were minutely transported well in advance to ensure a safe and successful expedition. By the first week of April, and prior to our climbers’ arrival, we had already established all essential facilities, including kitchen operations, electricity, communication systems, and more at the Base Camp.

This meticulous planning and execution contributed to a successful and rewarding end to the season.

Elite climbers from around the world joined the Satori Adventures Everest Expedition Spring 2026. Climbers landed in Kathmandu and trekked toward Everest Base Camp carrying a mix of emotions – excitement, deep respect for the mountain, hope and enthusiasm, strong focus and determination, and an awareness and fear of the risks involved.

The Satori Adventures Everest Expedition Spring 2026 marked several historic milestones in mountaineering, highlighting human endurance, determination, and teamwork at the world’s highest peaks.

Among the notable achievements, Nicholas Ellul became the seventh Maltese climber to successfully summit Mount Everest, adding a proud chapter to Malta’s mountaineering history.

Renowned Vietnamese plastic surgeon Dr. Ngo Hai Son achieved multiple extraordinary feats. He completed the rare and prestigious “Triple Crown” of Himalayan climbing – Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse – in just 98 hours and 27 minutes, alongside Nima Sherpa.

The expedition also witnessed another historic accomplishment by Satori Adventures’ expedition photographer, and Guinness World Record holder Purnima Shrestha. She successfully reached the summit of Everest for the sixth time, further strengthening her legacy as the only female non-Sherpa climber from Nepal to achieve this milestone.

Behind these achievements, the expert Sherpa guides of Satori Adventures played a vital role throughout the expedition. Their responsibilities included technical route leadership, load carrying support, oxygen management, and ensuring climber safety in extreme high-altitude conditions.
