Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trekking Route Updates Following the October 11 Budhi Gandaki Corridor Flood
Before dawn on October 11, 2026, a sudden flood surged through the Budhi Gandaki corridor, severely damaging the lower Manaslu trekking trail and affecting routes to the Manaslu Circuit (Larke-La Pass) and Tsum Valley region.
According to preliminary reports, several villages, including Jagat, Salleri, Dobhan, and Machha Khola, have been affected by the flood.
Local officials say the flood originated in the Syar Khola area of Tsum Valley, where a suspected landslide in its tributary, Wingilung Khola, temporarily blocked the stream.
The Nepal Tourism Board and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority have both issued advisories highlighting the flood alert and urging safety precautions in the region.
Initial reports indicate that the trekking trail between Yaru Bagar and Jagat has been damaged severely. Similarly, the trail towards Tsum Valley beyond Lokpa has been severely damaged and is currently blocked. The flood has also swept away several bridges, including both motorable and suspension bridges, between Arughat and Lokpa.
Satori Adventures currently has two trekking groups in the region, and both are safe. Immediately,
- Our guide and clients stayed/relocated in a safer, higher ground.
- Our guide and we followed the local authority, their instructions, and monitored the situation closely.
- We coordinated with the government authorities as well as local people regarding the next step to be taken.
The following day, Michela Parrini and Aleksandra Sannino from Italy flew to Deng, a small traditional village on the Manaslu Circuit trekking route with their guide Madan Chhetri. Deng is located before Namrung and Lho villages. From Deng, they will continue their trek towards Larke La Pass. The upper Manaslu trekking route remains in good condition and has not been affected by the flood.
Another group, consisting of two trekkers, Hamish Patrick and Vinayak Uppal, accompanied by their guide, Dirgha Singh, is currently in Jagat, which has become isolated from other villages due to the flood. But, the hotel where are they staying is pretty safe in a higher location. And, they are flying to Kathmandu aborting the trek.
We have rescheduled our next group from Poland, consisting of eleven trekkers, who are scheduled to begin the Manaslu Circuit Trek on October 13, to the Annapurna Circuit Trek. The Annapurna Circuit is another outstanding trekking route in the Nepal Himalayas, renowned worldwide for its spectacular scenery, diverse landscapes, and rich cultural experiences. It has long been regarded as one of the best trekking trails in the world. Although, Annapurna is not as secluded as Manaslu, the trekking is equally great.
For Future Trekking Programs:
The government has started assessing the damage and working rapidly to restore access in the region. This is very important not only for visitors, but for the local residents living in the remote region of the Northern Gorkha.
The government has acted very promptly to restore the access. So, we are hopeful that normal access to the Manaslu region will be restored soon. According to the authorities, they are planning to reconnect the upper Manaslu region with the lower region within 10-12 days.
We will assess the situation and manage our upcoming trekking trips accordingly, with safety as our highest priority. Nepal offers many alternative trekking routes, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the Nepal Himalayas, even if you may feel a little disappointed about not being able to trek along your originally planned and dreamt-of route.
